On Thursday, August 11, members of the Worcester Community came together at the YMCA family park to celebrate peace and commit to working to increase it in Worcester. The second annual Worcester Peace Festival featured speakers, performers, family activities and community resources.
Youth in our communities are so overwhelmed with violence that they truly feel it all around them. This is compounded by policies that do more to sweep the issue under the rug than address it. Our “call to action” came on September 29, 2010 when a small group of Boston area mothers gathered to share concerns about the alarming numbers of murders involving children, and the impact of these crimes on surviving family members, particularly siblings. We came together as Mothers for Justice & Equality. Several of our members have lost children to violence; the importance of creating solutions to this epidemic is clear and stems from our personal commitment to solving this social crisis.
